How Futures P&L Works

Futures profits are measured in ticks — the minimum price movement. Each tick has a fixed dollar value set by the exchange.

P&L = (Price Move ÷ Tick Size) × Tick Value × Contracts

Example — ES futures: a 10-point move = 40 ticks × $12.50 = $500 per contract. With 2 contracts = $1,000.
